Hot and Humid 4 on the 4th Keene

On July 04, 2018 I raced at the annual 4 on the 4th Road Race in Keene, NH. I have run this race every year since 2012, and this year there was an emergency time change due to heat. I spent the pre-race with a wet towel on my head to stay cooler. See pic.

I went into the race with a bit of sore legs, despite having rested for 5 straight days. I have been biking a lot more recently so I think this is using some muscles I’m not used to and affecting my running legs. I was nervous this combined with the heat would significantly hurt my performance. While I did not run my fastest on this course, with the weather issues that is probably to be expected. I was in 8th place at mile 1 and passed Gunnar somewhere around mile 1.5. The rest of the race, while sweaty and painful for my body, is relatively boring to describe because nothing happened aside from me praying for the end and wanting to die

Water station at mile 1.8 I grabbed a cup out of a girl’s hand as she pulled it away.

Water station at mile 3 I grabbed a cup of water and accidentally knocked two more cups out of other people’s hands

I won my age group M30-39 and a $25 gift card, which my time in previous years would not have been good enough for even a top 10 overall. The field was smaller this year.
