New PR (18:28) at the Sports Medicine 5K

On April 14, 2018 I ran the 11th annual Sports Medicine 5K Run at Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, NH

There were about 85 male participants. I started off the first quarter mile following Eric Shannon past a couple of other runners and after that spent the entire race between him and Jake Atherton. This is a hilly course as it follows the bike path between Court Street and Wheelock Park, including needing to run up the large hill at about mile 2.9 when there’s no energy left. I crossed the race’s two mile mark at about 11:33 on my watch, which made it surprising that I only got to the three mile mark by 17:45 or so. It’s possible I slowed down significantly in mile 3 (due partly to aforementioned hill) or I wonder if the second mile marker is just a bit off.

Jake has consistently beat me including in the Stone Arch Bridge 10 Mile that I have previously posted about. So being able to finish 5th ahead of him in this race was an accomplishment. A finish time of 18:28 is my 5K best, which was previously 18:57 set last year at this same race.
